The Onehunga Mall Club Apartments (OMC) pay homage to the historical legacy of the site while embracing a vision for future development in the vibrant suburb of Onehunga. With meticulous attention to detail and a deep appreciation for the area’s heritage, the OMC project stands as a testament to thoughtful design and community integration.
Spanning eight levels, the OMC development comprises 102 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, situated on the former site of the iconic Onehunga Workingmen’s Club. From its name to its branding and design, the project tastefully acknowledges the site’s rich history, while aligning with the future development patterns outlined in the Auckland Unitary Plan.
Architect Ashton Mitchell collaborated with Asphaltech early in the design phase to ensure the selection of appropriate products tailored to the project’s specific requirements.
For the roof, we chose a two-layer Sika Torch On Membrane System, designed to accommodate the concrete structure with falls leading to outlets. For the lower levels, we implemented a Sikafloor Carpark Deck System to ensure optimal durability and protection.
To safeguard the podium deck and balconies, we selected Neuchâtel’s Permatec system. Known for its versatility and ease of installation, Permatec was the ideal solution for this staged construction project. Its liquid application allowed our expert team to seamlessly join and rejoin the layers, ensuring smooth and continuous progress without delays.
One of the main challenges was coordinating the installation of scaffolding and the facade while working on the podium. Despite this, the project moved forward efficiently, thanks to the flexibility of our waterproofing systems.
The completion of the Onehunga Mall Club Apartments marks a key milestone in the ongoing revitalization of the Onehunga area. With its preserved facade, thoughtful design, and innovative waterproofing solutions, the project stands as a testament to architectural excellence and community-focused development.
