Viking TPO Warm Coof & Viking TPO Cold Roof
Mainfreight, located at 8 Beach Road, Favona, is the largest of Mainfreight’s warehousing and office facilities in New Zealand. Spanning an impressive 50,000 square meters, this project was executed by Calder Stewart Construction in collaboration with BSW Architects. The focus was on creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment that met the high standards of Mainfreight, NZ’s largest logistics company.
To ensure the integrity and longevity of the roofing system, a comprehensive waterproofing solution was implemented. The cold roof utilized 150 square meters of Viking Enviroclad 1.5mm grey TPO, while the office roof featured a warm roof design covering 600 square meters, also using Viking Enviroclad 1.5mm standard grade TPO.
A key element of the warm roof installation was the incorporation of Viking Polyiso insulation, providing 100mm thickness to achieve the necessary R-values for the office space. This attention to insulation not only enhanced energy efficiency but also contributed to the overall aesthetic finish desired by the client.
Challenges Faced
The project faced significant challenges, particularly the installation of the warm roof during winter without a protective tent. This inclement weather posed risks to the adherence and performance of the fully adhered system. However, the experienced team effectively navigated these challenges, ensuring that the roofing was completed to the highest standards despite the adverse conditions.
Proven Reliability
The Viking system has a strong reputation in New Zealand, with over 20 years of reliable performance. This long-standing track record provided confidence to the project team and stakeholders that the selected materials would deliver durability and effectiveness for years to come.
In conclusion, the Mainfreight warehouse and office project not only showcases advanced waterproofing solutions but also highlights the successful collaboration between Calder Stewart Construction, BSW Architects, and Viking, resulting in a state-of-the-art facility tailored to the needs of New Zealand’s largest logistics provider.
