The Continental Cars BMW showroom in Auckland, designed by Ignite Architects and built by Amstar Construction, faced significant waterproofing issues in its carpark. Originally, a liquid-applied membrane system was used, but it failed twice, causing leaks into the tenancy below. As a result, the building was covered with a temporary tent for 18 months while the client, Sime Darby, sought a permanent solution.

WATERPROOFING SOLUTION

After evaluating several options, Sime Darby selected Neuchatel Mastic Asphalt due to its proven reliability and long-term performance in New Zealand. Asphaltech and Neuchatel collaborated closely with the client to resolve detailing challenges, including tricky glazing, expansion joints, and cladding.

The Neuchatel Mastic Asphalt system, covering 900m², provided a lightweight yet durable solution. Unlike traditional torch-on membranes, it created a fully contained, non-porous waterproofing layer that was highly trafficable and isolated from the substrate, ensuring lasting protection against water intrusion.

The result was a successful installation, and Sime Darby was thrilled to reclaim their carpark. With the Neuchatel Mastic Asphalt system in place, the dealership now benefits from a secure, long-lasting waterproofing solution that guarantees ongoing protection for the carpark and the building below.
