The DCI Data Centre in Westgate stands as a pivotal facility in New Zealand’s digital landscape. Spanning 6,000 square meters, this highly certified cloud data centre is meticulously designed to operate efficiently while minimising environmental impact. With robust physical and virtual security measures in place, the center is equipped to handle multi-national cloud operations, government workloads, and defence projects. By integrating innovative and environmentally efficient technologies, DCI Data Centre enables the rapid deployment of secure cloud and hyperscale computing environments.

Asphaltech partnered with architect GHD and construction lead Naylor Love to ensure the highest quality standards for the data centre’s roofing system. Together, we specified a solution that would meet the stringent demands of this state-of-the-art facility.

WATERPROOFING SOLUTION

We chose the Neuchâtel Armourplan Warm Roof System, featuring Enotherm insulation and a peel-and-stick vapour barrier—a fully adhered system with fleece-backed membrane. This solution was selected for several key reasons:

Efficiency in Installation: A fully adhered system is notably easier and faster to install on concrete compared to mechanically fastened systems. This advantage significantly speeds up the installation process, ensuring timely project completion.

Optimal Performance: The Neuchâtel Armourplan system is designed to provide excellent thermal performance and long-lasting durability, crucial for a facility that supports sensitive and high-stakes workloads.

One of the significant challenges we faced was the need to prepare the concrete substrate. It required grinding down to create a suitable surface for proper adhesion. Given the large scale of the project, this step was critical to ensuring the integrity of the waterproofing system. Through careful planning and execution, our team provided a solid foundation for the roofing system.
